There are a lot of good reasons people don't want to or cannot use a microphone and VOIP systems.

I, for one, have limited available bandwidth at home on my network.  I also have the consideration of fact that my phones are through Vonage, which uses my net connection.

MxO consumes much of my available bandwidth, as does my phone, and several other services I use my bandwidth for.  Therefore, cannot use VOIP communications with any level of reliability without degrading my connection speed and phone's connection.

However, I can use the in-game chat system with no problems, and type fairly quickly. Additionally, if you know how to use the in-game's hot keys (such as NumLock to lock your character into running mode), you can move and type simultaneously.
