Got the e-mail the other day about the servers shutting down & despite the fact that this has been inevitable & I haven't played in over a year it made me kinda sad. But anyway I'm updating right now, so maybe I'll catch some of you all in game sometime Smiley

I am so disappointed that I uninstalled the game so soon to this happening.  I'm really pissed in a way, as I would have loved to take so many archival shots and actually see most of the features and events I missed out on!

I doubt anyone here knows me. I was a big player back in the early days of MxO. I originally founded the group Insurgence which, last I heard, was still fairly dominant on our server.

Even though I haven't logged in quite a while, it is kinda sad to see it come to an end (though we all saw it coming).

Anyway, I wanted to stop by and let everyone know that I've actually been working with a team, developing an MMO called X-Shift. Its a dystopian, cyberpunk game with all the great features you'd expect from that setting.

While we're still in the very early stages of development, I have always admired the MxO community and would love to see you all continue that community with our project.

Stop by our site http://xshiftonline.com/, join our forums, check out the screenshots and music as we develop our demo. It is sad to see MxO go, but I hope to see the community spirit live on. I'll see you all there.

Just wanted to quote the last message from Walrus, as I know the 'official' forums will be removed by SOE in a the future.

Quote from: Daniel “Walrus” Myers
How could I let The Matrix Online go without a final message to all of you? I’m glad so many of you made it back in for the final days. It was awesome seeing you all again.

MxO has been part of my life for a little over 5 years now as part of both the original development team and the SOE team. There have been substantial changes, occasionally bumpy roads, and tons of fun during that time. I will take many great memories and lessons forward with me.

I thought I’d learned a lot about community relations before joining The Matrix Online team and I’ve grown even more over the years. Whether delivering good news or bad, I was always guaranteed feedback from you, the players.

It’s something not everyone understands: When you hear back from people who play your game, you know they’re passionate about it. Even when players are up-in-arms about a change, it means they care about your game. It’s the combination of positive and negative feedback that grows both the game and the community around it. That passion is the heart of any great gaming community; and MxO is the best I’ve ever worked with.

We’ve had four years to play inside the Matrix world and even occasionally “in the real”. I’ve met many of you at the past three Fan Faire events and the first SOE Block Party. Anyone who attended those events can tell you it was a worthwhile experience. We shared some great times and I’ll treasure them always.

I’d like to thank everyone I worked with on The Matrix Online since I came on board in 2004. The game wouldn’t have existed without the vision and persistence of the original team who developed and ran it. I may have been the voice of the game, but they were the heart and soul.

Then there’s the team that brought the game over to SOE with the support of the staff here and those back at Monolith. It was a massive effort and an impressive achievement.

The customer support and community staff at SOE have been an awesome help to us for the last 4 years. These folks are on the front line every day and we couldn’t do it without them.

As for my team who kept updating The Matrix Online for the last few years, I can’t express how important these guys have been to me. I don’t know if the stories will ever be told, but they have done amazing work for the game—often through sheer will and passion. Thank you so much.

Finally, there’s all of you—the players. I’ve been working with you in one way or another since May 2004. That’s five years of my life that I wouldn’t give them up for the world. You have been a constant for me through all my life changes in that time. Just knowing you were all in the world playing out stories and building friendships meant so much to me. Any game that can grow a community half as strong as you is a winner in my book. I will miss the MxO world and all of you, especially.

I hope to see you again, on the Other Side.

Best wishes,

Daniel “Walrus” Myers

Producer and former Community Relations Manager

Hey, all:

DigitalPhreak, here...one-time member of the OS. Just dropped in to give my two cents as well. Like most of you, I was really sad to see MxO get dropped. I haven't played in a few months, but I remember all the great times I had with the game. Hell, I remember how insanely popular it once was, even, back before WoW (shudders) what it is now.

I want to thank a lot of people for the memories I have, some members of the OS and others who I have not spoken to in a long, long time.

I just wish there was a way to truly express how amazing these past four years were; it was exactly four years ago today that I first bought and signed up for MxO. How fitting that it would be today that I find out that it's over for good.

I just wish there were someone who would open up a private server. That would epic.

Hello, apparently SOE allowed for pre-NGE StarWars Galaxies in the form of SWGemu which is already up and running, and regular subscription SWG is still being played.  I don't see why they wouldn't allow an MxOemu.  Anyhow, the moment they bought the rights for MxO in 2006 and stopped adding content I knew then that they intended to close the game for good eventually since it was competing with SWG.  Asswipes. Good thing I sold the account in 2007, so I got all the money back that I spent in subscription for 2 years.  Thanks for reading.
