If you want bits 1-8 stick with the Dark Olive Barrelhead Shirt.

So talkin about decompiling. I started the numbers at lvl 6 on the lvl 1 clothing stuff and thought at some point i would get 1:1 of the items back. So if a cap has one bit1 and one bit2, i would get 15 each back.

Being at 9 there is no difference really in decompiling it. Apparently odds are same, have all the applied abilitys maxed, but no improvement.
So my guess is that chances for same and lower items are fix and some rule only lowers the chances for a higher item to decompile but doesn't make em better to decompile lower items.

But as i am just level 9 i might be rushing on it. Any experiences out there from some higher coder maybe?

Yes you only benefit for increased decompile ability is to successfully decompile that item.  It doesn't mean you'll get more BITS from a decompile when you are 20 then when you were 10.  It's a random drop based on the BIT required to create the item, not including RED FRAGS that might have made up those objects.

Ah, so rising the stats just increases my chances to evade failure in decompiling, but not the chance of a "full" or "partial" decompile. Tnx for clarifying.   There goes my 1:1 theory down the drain.

So it would be useful to know which items give statistically most of a bit considering you have to spend a decent amount of time if you would to large amounts of stuff.

I might make that point in the Coder Guide.

Well currently via the FEE FRAGS page in the guide it cost nothing but time to get 1-7 BITS so it's not much of a worry on how or frequently you get them randomly decompiled from the Red Pill Special.  Just repeat as time permits until you have hundreds of some and thousands of others Smiley

Here's a useful tidbit.  I'm pretty sure that when you decompile something, it takes each frag from that item and gives you one bit that is used to make up that frag from each..when I was looking for stuff to give certain things i wrote up a list of what each of the basic frags were made of so here it is..don't get mad if i mess some up

Lmao....i have my coding up to 40 now and didn't know that. LOL thanks keep running out of the evil 8 but got hundreds of the others. Oh is there a special trick to obtaining better drop rates from the mobs that drop red frags? I keep having problems getting subs and patches

Here's a (hopefully good) question:  is there a limit to the number of recipes a coder can learn?  It seems to me that I've come across a lot of items that were "learned" when I decompiled them, but when I want to compile something, it seems like the lists of recipes I sort through aren't as big as I thought they would be.

Maybe the recipes are just spread out under enough categories to the point that I'm seeing something of an illusion, or maybe I haven't learned the amount of recipes I thought I did.  I don't know, I just thought I'd ask.

To my knowledge there is no limit to the amount of recipes you can learn.  I have hundreds upon hundreds of items in my code library, and that is but a fraction of what other people I know have and I have not heard of anyone reaching a limit.  Keep in mind though, your compile library is completely different from your code library.  You must first code something from your code library (by using the "Code Analyzer Tool")  and upload it, in order to then compile it (Using the "Code Compiler Tool") into a hard copy.

Another thing to keep in mind, there are many numerous different copies of the same sort of item.  For instance, A regular pair of pants, will come in basic, armored, shielded and often different versions of enhanced, all in different levels on top of that.  You can also only learn one specific item once, any time after that you decompile the exact same item, you will only extract bits from it.  It will not add duplicate items into your Code Library.
