I wonder if I charged to access my site, and then did nothing. Got rid of all that worked on it, static content and not even spoke to my user base. How long people would continue to pay?
I can't post on the main forums, and I'm not paying $15 to post on a forum. Specially when this one costs me enough already.
While waiting for a letter from Walrus, I pretty accidentally found his letter from 2007. The following lines sounded pretty ironic from the today's perspective:
"...And since the guys on MxO are pros at keeping the game going, I don't feel the need to constantly oversee what they're doing. However, I'm way overdue for sending out an update from my perspective.
Most of what "keeping the game going" means is moving the storyline along. This has always been the most important post-launch element for The Matrix Online and continues to be the case..."
Do not expect a Producer's Letter.Walrus was kind enough to answer some of our questions in the party..And believe me,you already know the answers!
Kind enough? What the fuck, he's the paid producer of the game. That's his job as producer to produce the game and deal with the community. Or at least get someone that is in touch with the community to communicate intent! So no kindness, just his fuckin' job!
But the dedicated subscription base for MxO (ie, those that only pay for MxO) realisticly doesn't warrent his attention. He can't come out and say it, but he doesn't need you and you don't factor in the SOE business model.
But making some responses at an online 'party' is not a professional response from a corporation.
But if those wait for an additional 2 months for news, they'll wait and well that's $30 X the number of those people. For doing nothing. Shit if I could do nothing and get paid ...
At least open up some randomness of the 'hidden' and seasonal content. For the most it's boring avatar based chat service now.
As for that, there are plenty out there that would take up a NDA and contract with SOE to offer player based controlled events. What if they are players doing it in an official capacity. It's better than nothing. There is no storyline, so who cares if Niobi is killed ever other day.
