The dimly lit room was quickly illuminated by a ringing phone. A hand extended to and hit the answer button. "I told you. Don't call me. I don't care anymore." He took the phone and snapped it in two.

The voice exited the phone as if someone was talking through a ham radio that was just out of range. "You can't hide forever."

Denolus looked at the phone and threw it to the ground.

The man stood by a payphone staring blankly. He thought to himself, how can I get him to come back, why has he lost his fight?. He hung up the receiver and started walking away from the phone. He pulled his coat tighter around him, the chill of the rain penetrated his clothing. He shivered a little. "Time to find McBain I think."

Denolus wondered aimlessly around the city, he was as lost as his thoughts. The City didn't look the same as when he went into hiding. Something had changed, something was missing. The only constant is change. Thunder rumbled in the distance, which seemed to agree with his thoughts. The storm in the city matched the intensity of the turmoil inside.

He'd felt for a while that he had to leave but where to was still a mystery to him, as was the reason he kept thinking it. Ever since the Orcale died Denolus had never been the same. He'd felt lost, unsure of what or who he was fighting for. The humans and exiles just fought, and fought, and fought. It was an endless fight in a pointless war. He'd strongly felt that the Machines had figured out a way to power themselves without the need for humans, but perhaps some kind of fear or lack of control prevented them progressing.

He pulled out a phone and dialed a number.

The phone rang, a voice answered. "Its not ready yet."

"How much longer?" Denolus replied.

"Maybe a month, there are some configurations we can't seem to get. We've been"

Denolus hung up the phone. A month? I can't wait a month. I want out now.
