That little anime movie there, gives me the utter creeps *just watched it again* and it gives me an intersting line...

 "Bless all forms of intelligence"

Presuming the Second Ren. was written by the machines for the Zion archives the line reeks of irony yet it hints at possibly the machines despairing not at the fact the war happened but what happened in the war...
I'd explain but I was on about five pages of text by the time I realised I was rambling lol, so short story: Do you think the machines logical view of the humans changed from that time, NOT in the bad sense but in the good sense. Almost as if they were saying "we pity you but we pity ourselves for getting us into that situation in the first place."?

Also any ideas on who exactly struck first? I know Morpheus says no one knows (the machines can't have forgotten) and the second ren. part 2 starts off with nukes going off and although I've exhausted every option trying to find a reason for machines to strike first (and believe me every option requires the humans to have done something first OR sounds so far fetched it's daft. i.e. they have no real reason to attack due to the blockade as the blockade wouldn't really affect them per se, isolate them yes, otherwise nothing...) and I'm leaning far to the point of saying our leaders were morons and bombed the place for no reason except to have a bit of fun, so any ideas on that?

Second ren. part 2 = goriest thing ever, now you know why i don't watch this stuff, the guy getting ripped out of his power suit = makes me feel sickish every time  Sad

Well it steamed from the first 'machine' to kill.  It's self awareness and need for survival overided it's base program not to kill.

The humans had created something beyond there control, like man turning against it's creator so did the machines.  The blockade among other things, the assasination of the machine diplomates at the UN meeting.  Causes and effect, and as it said it wouldn't be the last time the machines would take the stage there.

As Smith and The Architect said there were many versions of the Matrix and the first were made as a paradise for humans, but were rejected.  They had the desire to protect ourselves from ourselves ... but ultimately our nature is to destroy ourselves.

So ultimately I would say we struck first, were we struck out of fear, anger and jelousy and the machines stuck out of survival.

The Next Ren' is one of my fav Animatrix movies I must say, and yes at times quite shocking Smiley
