PS:: Run each program 2 times out of the week ((you pick the days))

Hey if you have about $50-100 (prices vary from whom you buy from) to invest into a very very nice program that is rated 3x better than Nortan get the program "System Mechanic Professional 6". I'm using it right now and OMG my internet has never been faster nor has my computer operating! Well just to let you all in my little program life!

http://www.iolo.com/sm/6/purchaseinfo.cfm

((If you buy this program please know about your computer... Also if you need help with the program just ask.))

Add on!

(Opera is a very good internet browser; quick loading, quick downloading, and you can even open PC files using Opera)

If you run the Opera system there is a temp bin for those files too its called "Cache4" here is were its located.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile
Look for the folder that says "Cache4"
Open it press ctrl+A then press delete
These file are files that save themself to your pc as temp. files so they are useless

The above is an excellent bit of advice, and unfortunately, too many people do not take the time to do that kind of maintenance.

In addition to the above suggestions, I run the following:

  • Avast! Anti-virus
  • Ad-Aware SE
  • Spybot Search and Destroy
  • SpywareBlaster
  • SpywareGuard
  • Kerio Personal Firewall
  • Diskeeper (set to optimise all of my drives on a nightly basis, at 3am)

I've never had a spyware/virus/malware problem on my machine (and I've been working with computers since the late 1980s), and my HDD remains very fast.

Yea, sadly the internet has become more-so a haostile place.  It's quite sad.  I wonder if the companies that use these annoying scripts actually understand that no one will buy from them becuase it takes a day to figure out how do remove these buggers?  Also, how can this crap be legal?

*sigh*......Sometimes i hate the internet...

Much as the same as my system, although i would suggest to anyone to try using NOD32 Anti-Virus system. Not only does it pick up everything i have tested it with (and stuff i havent...) but still remains the best anti-virus around in terms of using the least amount of resources.

A guy I work with told me about this program, its pretty good at clearning cache and its free, which I like.

"" CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware! ""

A lot of good advice here.  I'd just like to second some of the recommendations I've seen here and add a couple things as well.  Here's what I've been running for the past couple years, and in that time have had no problems whatsoever:

Avast! (anti-virus)
Kerio Personal Firewall (now I think it might be called Sun)
Spyware Terminator (runs a realtime malware, adware shield...like a firewall)
FreeRAM XP Pro(a good RAM defragmenter)
Firefox (with the adblock and filtersetG extensions)
CrapCleaner
IOBit SmartDefrag
jv16 PowerTools (a good registry cleaner)

Also mentioned in thread was NOD32.  This is a great anti-virus, but it is not free.  And since I'm a tight-fisted bastard, I went back to Avast! when my free month of NOD32 ran out.  But, if money were no object, I'd be on NOD32 right quick.

Another good, free firewall is called Comodo.  I use Kerio because I've been using it for years, but I have read great reviews about Comodo.  So check it out if you're looking to make a switch.
