((Ok I decided that my Journal might get too confusing with all the other stuff I put in it.  So I am creating this thread for my *Public* Biography...there will be some posts to my Bio that you can only see in the Secure Comm Section under my Journal))

Chapter 1:  The End of the War

The sentinels hovered overhead. What were they waiting for? The Dock was in ruins and the Command Center had been evacuated. Everyone had been gathered in the Temple and what was left of Zion's military were resigned to their fate. He stole a glance at Lock. Lock's expression was one of hopelessness and defeat. He had never seen the Commander this way before...it must be the end. Suddenly he was aware of how "alive" he was. His senses seemed to be overflowing with feeling. "This must be how it is just before death takes you,"he thought to himself. He did not fear death, but he did fear failure. His sweaty palms adjusted their grip on his weapon as his gaze returned to the entrance of the Temple where countless sentinels could be seen crouched waiting...but for what? His thoughts were interrupted when Morpheus stood and started to move closer to the sentinels.

"What are you doing??"Niobe asked in her usual demanding voice.

"Morpheus!"Lock exclaimed as Morpheus moved slowly closer to the sentinels.

But nothing happened...Morpheus was just standing there staring up at where there should have been a sky. His eyes shifted to Niobe who was now looking at him, as if pleading for him to do something, but there was something odd about the scene now. She was moving as if in slow-motion, her head bobbing slowly up and down. It appeared she was yelling at him, though the silence would not give her voice any recognition. He concentrated on her thoughts and her lips moved again,"Anu...wake up,"her lips continued to move slowly,"Anu...wake up". He felt as if he was sweating rivers. He looked back down to his weapon and noticed his knuckles were very white. He was cutting of the circulation to his fingers with the firmness of his grip. Niobe was still pleading to him and he looked up and saw a solitary sentinel rushing down at him at breakneck speed. He braced himself for the collision and gritted his teeth and...he awoke.

His eyes were staring at the ceiling in his cabin but he still heard Niobe's voice in his head,"Anu...wake up!" His cot was soaked with sweat, it felt maddening to him as he replied,"I am awake..." He sat up, sitting on the edge of his bed, feeling only the cold metal on his bare feet. He ran his fingers through his damp blonde hair and stood, almost shaking, as the coldness seemed to shoot up through his feet and into his entire being. He couldn't shake the emotions of his dream as he got dressed and only after several minutes was he able to leave the cabin and make his way down to the main deck.

Chapter 2: Trouble at School

"Here...take a cookie Miss Thomas," Oracle smiled to the young schoolteacher as she slid the tray of oatmeal cookies towards her,"I just pulled them from the oven."

"Thank you," the young lady took a cookie politely but her features showed a slight impatience.

"Now,"continued Oracle taking a seat at the small kitchen table across from the schoolteacher,"why dont you tell me what's bothering you."

The schoolteacher shuffled anxiously in her seat and adjusted her glasses,"Well to be honest, I am a little concerned about Anu continuing his schooling with us."

"Oh?..."replied Oracle calmly and took a drag from her cigarette,"why is that?"

"Yesterday he..."she paused trying choose her words carefully,"he had a incident with a couple of the other boys."

She paused again expecting the older woman to respond, but none came. Oracle only smiled and waited for the young woman to continue.

"Uh...it seems these boys were picking on Anu, you know...normal twelve year old boy stuff," the schoolteacher smiled again, this time her uneasiness showed more than she intended,"Well...it seems Anu gave them quite a fright and...surely they exaggerated the incident."

Oracle shifted in her seat slightly and put out her cigarette,"Please Miss Thomas, just try to relax,"she smiled,"What exactly did Anu do to these boys?"

The schoolteacher straightned in her seat, somewhat embarrassed that she appeared that uncomfortable."These boys told me that Anu started telling them exactly what they were about to say to them before they would say it," the schoolteacher blushed at the ridiculousness of her comment,"What I mean is...they claimed he was reading their minds..." she gave a quick, nervous laugh and continued,"I know it sounds ridiculous but there have been other strange incidents in the past with Anu and we, myself and the headmaster, feel that perhaps Anu should seek schooling elsewhere."

"Well that sounds ridiculous to me Miss Thomas,"Oracle said with a softness that contradicted her words,"But if that is what you have decided I will be happy to make other arrangements for Anu's education."

The schoolteacher seemed to give a inward sigh of relief and was about to reply when Oracle continued,"But I assure you that my Anu cannot read minds, that is ridiculous isn't it?,"Oracle did not wait for a response,"Anu is very clever, as you know, I'm sure he just tricked these boys somehow and perhaps they will think twice before bullying around someone else again...if Anu scared them as much as you imply."Oracle gave a the young schoolteacher a polite nod as she lit another cigarette.

Miss Thomas returned a curt smile to Oracle and stood to leave,"I appreciate your understanding of the situation and I'm sorry for the bad news,"and she quickly made her way back to the front door of the apartment and left. It was apparent to Oracle that Miss Thomas was happy to be leaving the uncomfortable situation now that her duty was done.

Oracle finished her cigarette in silence as she knew that her time with Anu was finished and it was time to deliver him into the hands of Zion. Oracle always disliked letting one of her kids go, but she also knew she would be seeing Anu again in the future. She stamped out her cigarette as a few of the younger children entered the kitchen. Oracle returned to her natural demeanor as she offered each of the children a cookie and a grandmotherly smile.

Chapter 3:  A Real Father

Hovercraft Delphi glided through the dark tunnels. Captain Stewart watched, with a smile, as his first mate spotted a secure location and pointed it out to him.

"I think that is a good spot Captain."

Captain Stewart nodded and replied,"I agree Hollis, go ahead and put us down." The Captain reached for the intercom and flipped the switch,"Reese...get us ready for broadcast, we are going in."

"Yes Sir!,"Reese replied with the unmatched exuberance of youth.

The Captain laughed after he flipped the intercom off,"Kids..."

Hollis gave his Captain a smile as he put down the Delphi and punched a few buttons to ready the ship for broadcast. Hollis stood and they both made their way to the Main Deck talking quietly along the way.

"Have you ever met the Oracle, Captain?" Hollis asked.

"Only once,"the Captain took a deep breath,"it was...interesting."

Hollis nodded and continued,"Do you think this kid is the One?"

"How should I know? The Oracle says he has potential and he is very important," he replied and gave his first mate a glance,"That is all we need to know."

Hollis nodded once again as they approached Reese from behind. He made is way to his chair and Captain Stewart moved behind Reese and whispered a few words of encouragement to him, afterwards giving the young operator a pat on the back. Reese looked up with a nod, "Thanks Captain."

Captain Stewart gave him a wink and moved to his chair.

"Here we go..." Reese began punching buttons rapidly and the two officers felt the steel jack being inserted by Bonny, the Delphi's medical officer.

"Good luck." It was the last thing they heard Bonny say before they felt the sharp pain and opened their eyes to the green, rolling code of the Matrix...

They made their way through the streets quietly, glancing to the vendors and other bluepills that seemed totally unaware to their presence. Captain Stewart pulled the address from his pocket to make sure they were heading in the right direction, though Hollis noted that the Captain must be nervous, as this was the fifth or sixth time he had done this. Hollis followed his Captain into an apartment building and up the stairs...all was well. After reaching, what Hollis had counted as the fourth floor, Captain Stewart opened the door to a lengthy hallway and began to make his way to a door on the right, three doors down. Hollis followed. Captain Stewart gave Hollis a nod and straightened his suit, Hollis did the same. Stewart raised a fist, to give a knock, when the door opened suddenly and a young girl stood staring up at them. The officers gave each other a sidelong glance and returned their gaze to the little girl. Before they could say anything the girl turned and gave a shout toward the interior of the apartment.

“Oracle! There are a couple of men here to see you!”

She returned her gaze to them and smiled. They smiled back, somewhat foolishly, and she giggled at them for a moment before making her way past them, skipping down the hall. Their gaze followed her until she disappeared into the same stairway they had just come from. They turned their attention back to the doorway simultaneously to find Oracle standing there staring at them with an amused look. She straightened her face and motioned for them to follow her. The two officers felt embarrassed and somewhat pathetic as they nodded to her politely.

On their way through the apartment Hollis noticed a teenage boy sitting on the living room couch with golden blonde hair and piercing green eyes. The boy eyed Hollis knowingly, sending a eerie but curious feeling through Hollis. He found it hard to take his eyes off the boy, as a younger girl with long, white-blondish hair, who sat dutifully on the couch beside the boy, whispered to him quietly. The boy nodded to the girl’s remark but never took his eyes off Hollis. Hollis hadn’t even noticed the girl beside the young man before that, and as he made his way into the kitchen the boy’s eyes softened somewhat and offered a kind smile to him. Hollis turned his attention to Oracle, as he entered the kitchen, feeling slightly perplexed by the exchanges with the boy. His thoughts were still on the young man when he noticed Oracle studying him. He gazed upon her and was about to ask her about the young boy when she smiled to him and stated, “Yes Hollis...that is Anubias.”

Chapter 4:  Zion's New Arrival

He sat contemplating. The soft feel of his new clothes, the strange smell of earth and metal combining in the air he breathed. People would pass by him, pointing and whispering quietly to each other as if he were an oddity. Perhaps he was, he thought. Hollis had left him at the entrance to the Temple with the promise he would return soon, though the minutes passed like hours. His golden blonde hair had not grown much in his short time here, in the real world, and his scalp would tingle at the icy fingers of the cold air’s touch. This place seemed like a dreamworld to him, but he knew it was not a dream, he had just awoke ironically enough and things were as real as they could be. He was nervous. Why was he here?

Footsteps.

He turned to see Hollis approaching. He had liked Hollis since he had first laid eyes on the man back home. Home. That place never existed, it wasn’t real they had told him, though he had difficulty understanding it. Why wasn’t it real after all? He had grown up there and learned all that he knew there...it was his reality, didn’t that make it real?

Hollis crouched beside him and said softly, carefully to him, “Anu, take off your shoes and come with me.” Hollis smiled, a reassuring smile, though he didn’t feel much better as he stood and began to slip off his shoes.

“What are we doing here?”

“The priests would like to meet with you.”

“Why?”

Hollis sighed slightly, hesitantly, “Anu, it’s probably best if they explain it to you themselves, but I promise...you have nothing to fear.”

He still didn’t feel any better, but he offered Hollis a small smile anyway. Hollis seemed to react positively to this and told him afterwards he would show him the rest of the city. Zion, his new home.

They walked slowly through the Temple. Hollis seemed to delight in the questions he asked along the way. It was grotesque, walls of earth and stone, it was more of a tomb than a temple he thought...yet it was magnificent. There was an odd beauty to it, and a peacefulness that enveloped him. The two sides he saw to the Temple only created more confusion in him. One thing was clear though...he was in awe. He barely noticed as a robed figure approached to meet them. He was still looking around, taking in the massiveness of the cavern. Hollis had to give him a gentle squeeze on his shoulder to get him to stop walking. Only then did his eyes green eyes fall on the priest. He was bald and wore small, round spectacles that seemed as if they were as flimsy and frail as the man who wore them. His robes were white, though dingy and gave the illusion of being khaki in the firelight. The priest had a kind demeanor and smiled down to him.

“You must be Anubias.”

He nodded, “Yes sir.”

“We have been waiting for you.” The priest glanced to Hollis quickly before returning his kind gaze back to him, “You have arrived just in time for the Bread Feast.”

“The Bread Feast?” he replied curiously, “But how can you have a feast with only bread?” He felt embarrassed immediately but the priest only chuckled innocently and began to tell him a tale of a man named Geoffrey as he led them deeper into the Temple...

Chapter 5:  Bonds

The young man of seventeen stared out over the city from the balcony of his enclave.  His thoughts drifted erratically from his studies, Hollis’ impending return to the Matrix and his own personal feelings that had been plaguing him for some time now.  He knew he had to talk to someone soon, and Hollis was the obvious choice.  He took a deep breath and let it out in the form of a sigh.  Walking back inside he fixed his dinner, slumping down at the table afterwards.  Hollis joined, and after eyeing him for a few moments, spoke in a concerned tone.

“Anu, what is it?”

“I....I just want to know why,” Anubias absently played with the slop that was his dinner, “why I couldn’t have a normal life?  I mean, even here I am different from everyone else.”

Hollis took a deep breath and smiled at him, “You should be proud of who you are.”

They sat in awkward silence for a few moments.

“But, who am I?”

“You are who you shape yourself to become.”

“That’s not what I mean,” Anubias grumbled slightly, “I wonder what Oracle would say to me now...it’s been so long.”

Hollis set down his utensil and stared at the young man he thought of as a son, “Try not to worry yourself with these kinds of thoughts, Anu.  You will become who you are suppose to be and do what you are supposed to do, when it is time.  You will figure things out...and I will always be here for you to talk to.  I love you son.”

Anubias nodded slowly and smiled at Hollis.  This was the first time Hollis had ever really told him that he loved him.  Hollis had been there for him, the past five years, and was always someone Anubias could turn to for comfort and support...but he had never said those words.

 “I love you too...Dad.”

They continued their meal in silence...and though the food was as bland as always, it was the best meal ever.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hollis was tied up, his hands bound behind him as he listened to the rhythm of his heart in his ears.

Fear.

He had been left this way for several hours it seemed.  The concrete floor felt cold and wet on his skin, though it was perfectly dry.  Goose bumps came and went, as if on a biological timetable that ticked inside him.

Voices.

The sick fear renewed itself and he tested the bonds once again, as he peered to see who approached.  He prayed it wasn’t the blood-drinkers again.  He had felt on the brink of death when they last left him.  He could make out five silhouettes approaching and none of them seemed familiar...it didn’t bring him any relief.

They encircled him slowly and his eyes focused on their leader.  It was him, the Merovingian and his mind froze.  The Frenchman stared down at him with a sneer.

“You humans never learn,” he eyed Hollis with contempt, “What were you hoping to prove?  What is it that you sought to uncover?”

Hollis lowered his gaze and remained silent, as he knew he must do.

“Tis unfortunate you caught me on a bad day,” a smirk from the Merovingian quickly vanished and he sighed languidly, “Oh very well...if you will not talk one of your comrades will, and I will use you as an example for them.”

Hollis slowly raised his head once more and stared blankly up at the Merovingian’s face.  He was no longer afraid, because he knew what was about to happen.

The Exile leader pulled a revolver from his jacket quickly, yet casually and fired a single silver bullet into Hollis’ skull, exiting the back of his head in a red mist.  Hollis’ eyes shut and the last image he saw was that of his son, Anubias, sitting on the Oracle’s couch as a twelve year old boy, their first meeting.  Anubias smiled at him as the image faded and his consciousness ceased to exist.

“La causalité gouverne tout,” The Frenchman said quietly to himself.

The Merovingian looked directly at one his henchman and his voice was stern, “Bring in the others,” he ordered with a sinister smile, “Oh yes...they will talk.”

Chapter 7:  Purgatory

Entry from Anubias' Journal:

I am writing this to help me deal with my thoughts and emotions.

I have not used this journal in some time...I could barely read the last entry, not from wear and tear of the journal, but because of the emotion it has rekindled.

Why have I been kept out of things so long?  The Council has told me they would return me to OS soon.  That was over a year ago now...

I have heard rumors that Morpheus has returned, though not the real Morpheus...but a sim.  I am beginning to believe that is why they have kept me in Zion.  The Council knows my love for Morpheus...and I have to admit I didn't take his death very well...

Perhaps they were scared that I would want to believe the sim was really Morpheus and I couldn't be controlled?  That is why they have kept me out...I am sure.

For a very long time now, Hamann wouldn't speak of the Matrix and my adventures inside...

That has changed recently though, over the past few weeks I feel he is trying to tell me something.  Prepare me for something...

Speak of the devil...he is early.  I will try to continue this thought later.  Perhaps I will learn more with this visit.
