Well the fact the MxO Community has a hard time surpplying any, if at all, new/changed information I'm looking at ways to make it easier on the community to submit info and the update process.

Currently the details are manually typed out from the hover detail panel that is shown in game.  Obtaining the information is one things, but typing it out is another.  So I'm thinking of having it operate like it is in game.  So you'll be presented with the applicable icon.  Then on hover a popup will display the details of the item.  With the ingame screenshot of that dialog box.

The advantage is that anyone can send a screenshot and we can just upload a fresh copy to the source image.  So it will be just simple edits of a screenshot and upload.

The disavantage is that with it working on hover there isn't a visually easy to look at way to display the details.  It will also mean it will not print well, if people copy and print, for hard copy records.

But the fact less than, I'd say, 0.1% of the MxO Community contributes I can't see the justification in making updating external contents possible.  I'd ask for feedback, but I can guess a max of two people will respond.  So like always I'll do what I feel is best and easiest for MxO @ rumbaar.net.

Hope to hear from you.

Sample of what I'm talking about, just hover over mission reward icons and it should display:

I think the idea of a hover over is cooler in general, but tabling shouldnt be lost entirely either. Maybe have two versions of the pages? A default with hovers then a second 'printer friendly' version accessible from a small link at the bottom or something.

Regardless, I don't think it's too much of an issue relating to speed of updating/changing site content; getting the right image format and editing out background noise can be as much effort as copying text out by eye. Depends on the personal preference of the person I suppose. That said, if you've got a load of screenies you need transcripting, feel free to send em to me in a PM sometime.

Well doing both, doesn't save on time.  So it would be one or the other.

As for time taken to get the image ready, I can safely say ~20seconds from a screenshot.  Far easier and faster than a) getting the shot in the first place (when not in game) b) having it open at the same time as the editing of the page c)Typing all the text and formatting.

Now if people supplied the all the information like Ating has done in a recent post for specific item it wouldn't be an issue most times.  But that's a rarity.

Work versus reward .. it seems to come down too.

You know, if we made a post on DN1 enlisting the help of people to try and keep this site updated, I'm sure we'd get some response.  This site has been a resource for countless players over the years and I'm betting that if we asked for a bit of help, we'd get a few people more then willing to contribute some information and whatnot.  The majority of people may not know that this site has been largely compiled by only a small number of people.  If people knew that, and knew we needed a hand now in keeping it updated, I bet we'd have a few volunteers willing to help with the task.

What all needs to be updated still?  If we could give an idea of what we need, it would be easier for people to step up and lend a hand.

I've on a number of occasions, in recent post on DN1, posted about how there is little help from the general community in response to out of date content.  Other than posting in various related threads, little can be done for motivation.  I even tried putting a note for guest when they visit.

Have to re-do Download maps to incorporate all Booster locations.  Have to re-do all of the layout and information for Richland/Westview.  Have to add the two new quest collector details to the quest section.

I'd also like to add maps for the constructs as well, though I don't think I have a capture of Widow Moor and or any of the faction specific $100m key access areas.   Also need to add the Sleepwalker and Sati collectors and details to the quest sections.

But for the most part, when ppl see things wrong just to give a heads up.  I've noticed a few glaring errors in recent updates and it's a wonder no-one has ever said anything before.

Hmm, I'll think about making a post then at some point.  Perhaps in Community News, an all points bulletin pleading for help or something of the sort.

As for maps of the constructs, that shouldn't be too hard with the exception of 01, I don't think the map shows up there for some reason.  Getting maps of the Organizational constructs might be another matter as there are 3 or 4 different floor plans for each organization that load randomly when you access one.

Yeah I don't have the ability to post in Community News area, so if you can that's good.

Yeah I've got a screenshot of 01, not layout but at least the overall size layout and positions of sentries.  Ah that'll make it hard yes.  Shame a key is so expensive ... well for me at least at my lowly 2 year old state of 20mil

So if screenies are the way to go, what sort of system do you use to upload em if I dont have
a website to host em on. Can they be uploaded/attached to a post?

Well I'm not 100% sure of that path yet.  I've recently update the City Collectors to include special items for the one or two collectors that take such items.  Also the datamine quest has been added with a combination of the old system and new.

But yes I think I've enabled the attachment system here, but you can host them at free image hosting services like http://imageshack.us
