Using AIM within The Matrix Online Game
Note: Close down the AIM client before logging in to MxO or else you could lose focus of the game client when receiving Instant Messages.

Once you are in the game, you can open your MxO AIM contacts list by clicking the first box in the lower left corner of the screen. Once you open the contact list, you will see a list of friends, co-workers, etc. The contacts will appear in the following colors:
Bright Yellow - Online
Dark Yellow - Away
Grey - Offline

Note: When you delete your MxO character, your MxO AIM account will no longer work and you will lose all of your contacts. If you would like to keep your contacts, refer to AIM's Help topic about exporting/importing buddy lists.

Adding a Group to Your Contact List

From the chat window:
You can add a group from the chat window using the following command:
/ga groupname

Adding a Player to Your Contact List
There are two ways to add a player to your contact list.

While chatting:
To add a contact that you're chatting with, right click a line of that person's text and select Add contact.

From the chat window:
You can add a contact from the chat window using the following command:
/ca groupname playername

In this case, groupname is the name of the group you want the contact added to and playername is the name of the new contact. You can't add a player to your contacts without adding him or her to a group. This is why you need to create a group first and probably want to keep your group names fairly short.

Adding an AIM User to Your Contact List
There are two ways to add an AIM contact to your contact list.

While chatting:
To add an AIM user you're chatting with, right click a line of that person's text and select Add contact.

From the chat window:
You can add an AIM contact from the chat window using the following command:

/ca groupname [email protected]

Removing a Player from Your Contact List
To remove a person from your contacts, right click his or her name in the Contacts window and select Remove. You can also use the following command:

/cr groupname username

To remove an AIM user:
/cr groupname [email protected]

Moving Contacts Between Groups
You can also move a user into a different group by right clicking the name and selecting the group under Move to. Whatever changes you make to your Contacts list -- inside game or using the external AIM client -- will change what you see in both places. For example, if you delete a person from your MxO Contacts window, the next time you log on to AIM that person will be gone from there as well.

Chatting With Contacts
There are two ways to chat with someone on your contact list.

Double click on the contacts name
-Or- Right click a name and select Chat.

Other Chat Commands
Tell: To talk directly to another player use the "tell" command:
/t username

Or, to send a "tell" to an AIM user:
/t username@domainname
(example: /t [email protected])

Ignore: To keep a user from chatting with you, use the "ignore" command:
/i username [on|off]

Or, to ignore an AIM user:
/i aim username@domainname [on|off]

If you don't specify "on" or "off", the person's ignore status will toggle to the opposite state. For example, if you type /i BetaBetty and you're currently ignoring her, you'll un-ignore her chat messages.

Reply: To reply to the last person that sent you a "tell", press r and then type your message in the chat window.

Using Your MxO Account With The External AIM Client
In order to use AOL Instant Messenger, first you must install AIM on your PC if you don't have it installed already. You can get a free copy of the client from http://www.aim.com. Click the Upgrade button, download the client, and then follow the installation instructions.

Once you have AIM installed on your PC, you can log into the AIM client using the following:

Screen Name: charactername[/i]@thematrixonline.com
Password: your MxO log on password
Note: While your password is the same one used to log on to the game, the Screen Name uses your character's name--not your MxO log on username.

Adding an MxO Player to Your Contact List
Press Alt-S to open the Setup Window and then press Alt-B to add a contact. Enter the contact's MxO character name followed by @thematrixonline.com. For example: [email protected].

Creating A Group
Press Alt-S to bring up the Setup Window and then press Alt-G to add a group. Enter a group name that would represent the type of contacts that you will be assigning to this group. For example, I would like to put all of my Matrix Online buddies into a single group so I create a group called MxO-Buddies or just plain MxO.

Note: Group names can't have spaces in them. For example: Co Workers won't work, while Co-Workers will. If the group name has a space in the name, it will only read up to the space.

Adding a Buddy List
See the AIM help documentation to learn how to add contacts and groups to your AIM account. If you already have a personal screen name besides the MxO AIM screen name, you can easily add the buddy list of the personal screen name.

1. Log on to your personal AIM account, select My AIM > Save Buddy List.
2. Log off your personal AIM account.
3. Log on to your MxO AIM account, click on My AIM > Load Buddy List.

Merging Screen Names
If you want to merge screen names, select My AIM > Managed Linked Screen Names and then click on the Link/Unlink Screen Names box.

Note: AOL will only allow a set number of characters to be entered in the log in screen that is displayed after you select the Link/Unlink Screen Names box. If you want to merge screen names, you can't link other screen names with the MxO screen name but you can link your MxO screen name to another screen names. For example, there are two screen names: [email protected] and [email protected]. You can only link I_R_UBER @thematrixonline.com to [email protected]. When you log onto your personal @aim.com account after that, you'll also be able to view buddies and send/receive messages to your buddies via your @thematrixonline.com[b/] account.
