Title: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Rumbaar on May 30, 2009, 10:28:35 AM Well it's finally been announced, and the Matrix Online MMORPG will end on July 31, 2009 at 11:59PM PST the ability to play The Matrix Online will cease!
Information Regarding MxO's Final Chapter (http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/posts/list.m?topic_id=36300028716) - quoted below Walrus's very short announcement All Good Things Must End (http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/posts/list.m?topic_id=36300028715) - quoted below It has been an interesting 4+ years for me and all those that have visited and participated in the game. It's sad the transition from Monolith to SOE wasn't handled well and the game never really lived up to it's potential. I think they could have had a great game if it's storyline at the beginning was truly international, not just focused on the US timezone market. But I'm sure this website will be up a lot longer than SOE's, as they'll be taking all of their MxO content down very soon after closing the servers. So if you want to continue to be in contact with all those you've met, be sure that I'll not be deleting any data or removing access. It's funny, as an information content provider I received not one donation to support the site, but I guess with a less than good game it would be hard to get those to donate. Thx to all that participated and help make this site what it is. You guys and gals are the best! Quote from: Raijinn As you have recently read in Dan “Walrus” Myers producer letter All Good Things Must End, The Matrix Online service will be discontinued and the servers will go dark on July 31st. After 4 memorable years of sharing amazing stories and epic adventures with a wonderful and dedicated community, we saw how deep the rabbit hole went and it was time to write the final chapter of the story. We understand that there are many questions and will do our best to answer them here. What happens to all the code/data for The Matrix Online? Sony Online Entertainment and Warner Brothers will retain all of the code and data from The Matrix Online. Can someone open an emulated server for The Matrix Online? Sony Online Entertainment and Warner Brothers hold the copyrights for The Matrix Online stories and data so creating a fan owned and operated emulated MxO server would be against those copyrights. What happens to the staff that made The Matrix Online? Staff that were involved with The Matrix Online will transition over to new projects and responsibilities at SOE. How are The Matrix Online subscriptions refunded? / I just re-subscribed, how will I get a refund? As of June 1, 2009 any currently entitled active player with an account in billing will not be billed again. For players who have previously purchased prepaid subscription time via a multi-month subscription service, SOE game time card or other retail game time card that extends the service period past June 1, 2009, SOE will refund these accounts for the unused time and where indicated will mail refund checks to the current billing address on the account. Please be sure to update your email and physical address in your Station Account as this will be critical to the refund process. Are The Matrix Online subscribers going to be compensated for their loyalty to the game? On July 31, 2009 at 11:59PM PST the ability to play The Matrix Online will cease. We encourage players to transition their active service to one of the other SOE games available for trial during the transition period of June 1 through August 1, 2009. Will The Matrix Online be at Fan Faire? While there won’t be any official panels at Fan Faire 2009, there will be many Sony Online Entertainment staff members that have worked on or supported The Matrix Online who would enjoy hearing your favorite in-game memories from your adventures in Mega City. Will The Matrix Online story come to a conclusion when the servers are shut down? The final days of The Matrix Online will include revisiting some of the great events experienced in-game, leading up to a climactic final event. Will the MxO Website, Players Pages, and Forums be available after the service shuts down? The main The Matrix Online page will not be available after June 1, 2009 and the MxO Players Pages will be available through July 31, 2009. The MxO Forums will be available for a short period of time after the service shuts down and there will be an update posted there at that time as to how long they will be available. Quote from: Walrus In May 2004, I embarked upon a journey. I decided to take the red pill in a big way—I became the online community lead for The Matrix Online. Later that year, many of you joined me as you jacked in for the first time. It was a brand new world—a vision of online games that didn’t involve elves, spaceships, or dragons. We became part of the Matrix storyline; living our own adventures in the world painted by the movies. It seems not so long ago I was jumping into Mara Central and going toe-to-toe with other devs at E3 2004. I had no idea this journey would take me to a whole different company, managing a major revision of the game, and my first producing gig. “Long, strange trip” doesn’t describe the half of it. Now we’ve seen how far the rabbit hole goes and it’s time to wake up from that dream (or go back to sleep, depending how you look at it). On July 31, 2009, we will be jacking out for the last time. It’s a bittersweet moment for everyone involved with the game; as a player or as a developer. It has been a good run. Where many games have fizzled out before or shortly after launch, by August we will have lived on in our home at SOE for more than 4 years. To this day, I have never worked with a community as dedicated as The Matrix Online community. I’ll be at Fan Faire this year showing The Agency and hanging out with any redpills making the trip. The past couple years have been a blast, so I hope to see some of you there again.. The team will also be whipping up an end-of-the-world event. It won’t be quite the same as having over 100 developers in the game as Agents like when we ended beta, but we have 4 years of tricks up our sleeve. It’ll be a chance to revisit all the things that make MxO the memorable experience it is. And how could we pull the plug without crushing everyone’s RSI just one more time? I have a lot of fond memories from my years working on MxO. We’ve had a good time in the Machines’ little playground and will be sad to see it end. I hope everyone enjoys the last few months of playing The Matrix Online. See you on the other side. Daniel “Walrus” Myers Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Inhumancode on May 30, 2009, 08:33:52 PM Just got an email about that, man, it's depressing, but not unexpected.
I think that anyone with an active account should post on the main forums and direct people to this site- I think it could become a great anchor for all players of The Matrix Online, so that everyone can keep in touch. Never did get to that level 50, despite the amount of time I spent in game. : ) Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: JordanWhite on May 31, 2009, 09:20:50 AM This is Darrius since I created a new account due to log in problems.
I read this today and I am very sad, even though I was expecting this for awhile. So note to everyone else, as long as this website is still up, I will continue updating the Entertainment District. I just wish I could say goodbye on the forums and meet the people I've met in real life. :'( Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Eoven on May 31, 2009, 07:17:07 PM man that really bytes, well i am for sure going to subscribe for the last two month and play one more time. Hopefully we will see it again ^^
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Brewca on June 03, 2009, 09:49:26 AM welp.....can't say its not expected.
i resubbed to see the end out, looking forward to catching up with however is still playing Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Reikira on June 04, 2009, 02:43:42 AM Wow.. they're finally throwing in the towel. Well, it had a better run then most people had expected anyways. I can't say that I'm surprised.. I'd been expecting this since Rarebit said his goodbyes but I'm a little sad nonetheless. This is the end of an era it seems.. at least for me. I mean hell, with the exception of the last couple months, the last almost 5 years of my life have been spent in and around this game and site. Sooo many memories. You all here are what kept me coming back though for sure. I've never met a finer group of people anywhere else online.
Well, I'd had it in my mind that I was going to re-sub for the last month but I think I missed the deadline to do that as they're not lettine me sign up again. Bah! They should seriously just make the last month free to play for anyone who has held a sub to MxO in the past. It would be only fair.. but this is SOE so I'm not going to hold my breath. Ahh well. Altais! Good to see ya! Been too long hun. You'll have to come on and drop by the new OS forums when we get them all up and running. hope everything's been going good for ya out in IRL land. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Eoven on June 05, 2009, 01:11:49 PM Man if you only tried Reikira seems ppl were able to sub even after the June 1st up to June4th. But it was a pleasure playing with you girl ^^ your the first person who help me out when i was new in the game and such great times, especially in westview where we had to retreat serveral times to save our butts from those missions lol.
As well like to say thanks to everyone else who helped me out back in those days. The initiation ceremony was a trip, one memory i will never forget, lol was so freaked out, got the impression was going to get a pvp flag and get jumped =P Plus also introducing me into the RP world of the Omega Syndicate, it was a trip, never thought possible how much it can be done in the game. Again thank you all so much ^^ Title: Forever Not, Dissapointment and a Trade with King Monopoly Post by: rycross003 on June 06, 2009, 08:01:02 AM Nothing lasts forever in this world. However, I am upset that the Matrix Online is being taken away from the rest of the Sony Online Entertainment games listed. They encourage players to join one of the other games available; now that is a good one. As for me, I will be trading in my Sony Playstation 3 for an X-Box 360. Though Microsoft has an iron fist and suffercating grip over most of their available content, they are not taking away my game.
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Denolus on June 07, 2009, 02:36:37 AM X-box 360: Project Natal.... *drools* *360 live gamertag: Resurgo*
It is sad, but what Rei stated about Rare I agree. It was only a matter of time, all things consider I'll miss this game a lot and still hope that some day we all meet up on some game and show these other games what it means to be O.S. ... But like all things they must come to an end, even when you don't want them to. I've given a lot of my time to this game and site, and will miss it & you dearly. Omega Syndicate member, now... and forever. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: CloudWolf on June 09, 2009, 09:21:17 PM Hopefully we'll stick together through the other side of the looking glass. Any news on a generalised OS site?
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Rumbaar on June 10, 2009, 08:02:20 AM Well the forum is there Cloudwolf, and I've gone for the next version of the software. It's in RC stage, so not sure to wait until the next release or final gold before committing major changes.
Or open it up with the default look and layout and see how it goes. Get 'bums' on seats and take it from there. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Silaria on June 11, 2009, 02:21:02 AM Everything that has a beginning......Has an End.......But it is not the End yet......Not for us....
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: St4rgazer on June 15, 2009, 09:19:57 PM "...and where one journey ends, another one is soon to begin."
*smiles* Although my private life has made consistent ventures into the Matrix quite problematic, I must agree with what has been said prior. These past few years with you fine people will always live in memory, and though the digital dream may soon be over true friendships are sure to remain. Looking forward to meeting you yet again in the Matrix these coming weeks. There will be plenty of souls to save, I think. -St4rgazer- Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Reikira on June 16, 2009, 09:03:53 AM Wow, I don't know if by mistake or intention, but it looks like they've opened the doors for anyone who has had a sub to MxO in the past. My account is working again though I never was able to actually re-sub. So yea, maybe I'll see you all ingame for one last kick at the coded cat before they shut the servers down.
Yay! I'm happy now. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Denolus on June 17, 2009, 11:55:58 PM WHAT ! WHAT !!!! are joos saying if I install the game I can playz and not pay?
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: St4rgazer on June 18, 2009, 12:08:57 AM Hehe. That's pretty much what we're saying, yes.
*hands Denolus the phone* The Matrix needs you. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Denolus on June 18, 2009, 12:18:31 AM hmmmm but who to come back as Denolus... or Serato....

Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: ScareCrowe on July 03, 2009, 06:52:09 AM Got the e-mail the other day about the servers shutting down & despite the fact that this has been inevitable & I haven't played in over a year it made me kinda sad. But anyway I'm updating right now, so maybe I'll catch some of you all in game sometime :)
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Inhumancode on July 30, 2009, 01:59:20 PM Last 48 hours or so... want to see you guys in game!
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: Rumbaar on July 30, 2009, 02:16:18 PM I am so disappointed that I uninstalled the game so soon to this happening. I'm really pissed in a way, as I would have loved to take so many archival shots and actually see most of the features and events I missed out on!
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: khanstruct on August 01, 2009, 03:02:41 PM I doubt anyone here knows me. I was a big player back in the early days of MxO. I originally founded the group Insurgence which, last I heard, was still fairly dominant on our server.
Even though I haven't logged in quite a while, it is kinda sad to see it come to an end (though we all saw it coming). Anyway, I wanted to stop by and let everyone know that I've actually been working with a team, developing an MMO called X-Shift. Its a dystopian, cyberpunk game with all the great features you'd expect from that setting. While we're still in the very early stages of development, I have always admired the MxO community and would love to see you all continue that community with our project. Stop by our site http://xshiftonline.com/ (http://xshiftonline.com/), join our forums, check out the screenshots and music as we develop our demo. It is sad to see MxO go, but I hope to see the community spirit live on. I'll see you all there. Title: So long and thanks for all the bukitz. Post by: Rumbaar on August 02, 2009, 11:22:58 AM Just wanted to quote the last message from Walrus, as I know the 'official' forums will be removed by SOE in a the future.
Quote from: Daniel “Walrus” Myers How could I let The Matrix Online go without a final message to all of you? I’m glad so many of you made it back in for the final days. It was awesome seeing you all again. MxO has been part of my life for a little over 5 years now as part of both the original development team and the SOE team. There have been substantial changes, occasionally bumpy roads, and tons of fun during that time. I will take many great memories and lessons forward with me. I thought I’d learned a lot about community relations before joining The Matrix Online team and I’ve grown even more over the years. Whether delivering good news or bad, I was always guaranteed feedback from you, the players. It’s something not everyone understands: When you hear back from people who play your game, you know they’re passionate about it. Even when players are up-in-arms about a change, it means they care about your game. It’s the combination of positive and negative feedback that grows both the game and the community around it. That passion is the heart of any great gaming community; and MxO is the best I’ve ever worked with. We’ve had four years to play inside the Matrix world and even occasionally “in the real”. I’ve met many of you at the past three Fan Faire events and the first SOE Block Party. Anyone who attended those events can tell you it was a worthwhile experience. We shared some great times and I’ll treasure them always. I’d like to thank everyone I worked with on The Matrix Online since I came on board in 2004. The game wouldn’t have existed without the vision and persistence of the original team who developed and ran it. I may have been the voice of the game, but they were the heart and soul. Then there’s the team that brought the game over to SOE with the support of the staff here and those back at Monolith. It was a massive effort and an impressive achievement. The customer support and community staff at SOE have been an awesome help to us for the last 4 years. These folks are on the front line every day and we couldn’t do it without them. As for my team who kept updating The Matrix Online for the last few years, I can’t express how important these guys have been to me. I don’t know if the stories will ever be told, but they have done amazing work for the game—often through sheer will and passion. Thank you so much. Finally, there’s all of you—the players. I’ve been working with you in one way or another since May 2004. That’s five years of my life that I wouldn’t give them up for the world. You have been a constant for me through all my life changes in that time. Just knowing you were all in the world playing out stories and building friendships meant so much to me. Any game that can grow a community half as strong as you is a winner in my book. I will miss the MxO world and all of you, especially. I hope to see you again, on the Other Side. Best wishes, Daniel “Walrus” Myers Producer and former Community Relations Manager The Matrix Online Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: telemancer on August 04, 2009, 07:39:36 AM glad I was able to make it for the last days, it was great to see so many people back for that last bit, names that I hadn't seen in months and sometimes years showed up in Mara C on Syntax. the end brought a tear to my eye....T
Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: ghostofmccleve on August 12, 2009, 01:45:39 PM Hey, all:
DigitalPhreak, here...one-time member of the OS. Just dropped in to give my two cents as well. Like most of you, I was really sad to see MxO get dropped. I haven't played in a few months, but I remember all the great times I had with the game. Hell, I remember how insanely popular it once was, even, back before WoW (shudders) what it is now. I want to thank a lot of people for the memories I have, some members of the OS and others who I have not spoken to in a long, long time. I just wish there was a way to truly express how amazing these past four years were; it was exactly four years ago today that I first bought and signed up for MxO. How fitting that it would be today that I find out that it's over for good. I just wish there were someone who would open up a private server. That would epic. Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: MajTom on August 13, 2009, 08:54:43 AM Its not over yet...SOE may have pulled there plug but you can't keep a good operative down.
Check out what going on over here http://mxoemu.info/forum/index.php Some Clientside fun. Wish you were here. :( http://forums.station.sony.com/mxo/posts/list.m?start=50&topic_id=36300030161 MajorTom Title: Re: All Good Things Must End ... Post by: NEOscuro on June 06, 2011, 01:35:04 AM Hello, apparently SOE allowed for pre-NGE StarWars Galaxies in the form of SWGemu which is already up and running, and regular subscription SWG is still being played. I don't see why they wouldn't allow an MxOemu. Anyhow, the moment they bought the rights for MxO in 2006 and stopped adding content I knew then that they intended to close the game for good eventually since it was competing with SWG. Asswipes. Good thing I sold the account in 2007, so I got all the money back that I spent in subscription for 2 years. Thanks for reading.
